Trip Overview

Mustang; the one and only hidden kingdom of Nepal covering an area of 2020 km(780sq mi). The estimated population of this whole region is only 15000. This region lies from (2800-3900m) above the sea level. Mustang divides into two parts; Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang(Lower Mustang Trek). Due to tough weather condition, winter migration takes place to a large number of population to come down to Lower Mustang from Upper Mustang.

Similarly, Jomsom is the main town of this region and has only one airport which runs only till 11 am due to strong wind there. In this Lower Mustang Trek Jomsom airport is the most popular gateway. Mustang is also a town behind the mountains is a dry region; as the gigantic Mountains block the cloud from all sides. Rainfall hardly occurs in this region. It is also restricted demilitarized area till 1992 which has become the main reason for the preservation of there rich culture, language, and traditions.

In recent few years, more than twelve caves were also discovered to the north of Annapurna. Paintings from the 13th century are also here and the Royal Palace of King Jigme Dorje Paldor Bista (who passed away in 2016) is still here. The oldest Gumba built before 700 yrs is still here in this region. The highest altitude we will face in Lower Mustang Trek is( 3800m/12467.19ft ) which is of Muktinath.

The main place to visit in this Lower Mustang Trek;

1)Ghorepani; This Location provides you breathtaking sunrise view which will be a panoramic view of the great Himalayas of the western region of Nepal.

2) Kagbeni; Small town in the Mustang region which have awesome religion influenced by Tibetan culture in the back of Kali Gandaki Region. It is the main town of Mustang and has a great location; as desert.

3)Muktinath; There lies a very famous Temple of Hindus, this temple gives the meaning of “place of liberation”. There also lies 100 taps which give a meaning that after taking bath from all the taps we will be free from all our sins; that is the main reason it has been a famous tourist destination place.

The town is composed of two sediments: upper village and lower village. Ghorepani provides panoramic views of natural landscapes. Overnight in Ghorepani.
We will wake up early to view morning sunrise from viewpoint known as Poon Hill (3210m). Poon Hill is the most popular destination of trekking. As we approach Jomsom via Ganjur Pass (it is a medium pass that we have to pass to reach Jomsom) the scenery changers again becoming like desert. Jomsom is the center of Mustang that contains several good hotels, bakery shops; army/ police check post, government offices. About three hours walking along the valley we reach to Tibetan pretty village of Pholyak where we will stay overnight.
After breakfast, the trek will continue up the Kali Gandaki river basin, with the terrain becoming much more barren and the breeze increasing as we pass through the gorge.
